There are many ways to become involved with Habitat for Humanity. With your help, each day we move closer to helping local families realize their dreams of home ownership.

Individuals and Community Volunteers

Below are our current volunteer opportunities. We are in great need of volunteers who can become a regular part of our team.

Burnaby Build Site:
Open 8am – 4pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday

  • Crew Leaders – Can you lead a group?  A crew leader is someone who can direct unskilled volunteers on site projects and helps familiarize them with site tools and techniques.   Most importantly, crew leaders make the on-site experience more comfortable and enjoyable for less-practiced volunteers. Previous knowledge of construction is useful but not essential. Most important is that Crew Leaders have transferable skills from a related field or trade and the patience to help others learn.
  • Crew Member – Do you want to gain more experience around the construction site but aren’t exactly sure where to begin?   Maybe you already know a thing or two about carpentry but you aren’t comfortable with leading a group just yet?  From cleaning up discarded materials to hammering floor boards, we have opportunities for everyone to get their hands dirty at the build site as a crew member.  The best part of all is you learn as you go!
  • First Aid OFA Level 2 or 3 – First Aid attendants are always in demand at the build site.  First aid certification must be up to date and must be equal or equivalent to OFA level 2 or 3 per WorkSafe requirements.

Vancouver/Burnaby ReStores:
Open 9am – 5pm Monday – Saturday

  • Floor Helpers – Are you able to dedicate a regular time slot to volunteering each week?  We need floor helpers to assist with shipping, receiving, organizing, pricing and stocking shelves, especially during the weekdays.  Volunteer shifts are the ReStores are generally 4 hours which also gives you plenty of time to be the first to scope out all of the latest inventory that hasn’t even hit the shelves!
  • Cashiers/Customer Service Representatives – Do you have a knack for helping people?  As a cashier or customer service representative at the ReStore, you will be the first face of Habitat for Humanity that our customers will see.  We need passionate individuals to help us ring in sales and answer customer inquiries via phone and in person.
  • Carpenters/Electricians/Cabinet Builders/Plumbers – Can you put things together easily?  A lot of the items we receive arrive in boxes in many small parts.  We are looking for skilled individuals who have experience putting together and testing taps, lighting fixtures and cabinets so they are picture perfect and ready for the sales floor.

Other Opportunities:

  • Spread the Word about our ReStores:  Do you know of a great place to advertise our ReStores?  Perhaps you know someone who works at a firehall or construction company who would be willing to post our ReStore poster?  Do you know of a festival coming up where you could distribute flyers?  Let us know what you have in mind and we’ll get you the supplies you need to help us get the word out.
