The Everyday Essentials brand offers affordable home goods and we are thrilled that they are introducing products that will help support affordable housing in Canada. The Everyday Essentials Habitat for Humanity Canada mug set housed in a hat box is sold in the Real Canadian Superstore and Nofrills stores. So buy a couple for yourself, as gifts (already in an attractive box) and pass the word through your social media.  They’re only $10 and the money goes toward a terrific cause!

Thank you to all who voted for Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver!  HFH Stratford-Perth is the winner of the 2011 Brick by Brick campaign. They will be the recipient of the first home sponsorship in partnership with The Brick.  Congratulations to Jon MacKenzie, Executive Director, and the rest of his staff.

The Brick will continue to provide updates on the progress of the build in Stratford on The Brick’s Facebook page and through Habitat for Humanity Stratford - Perth.

Governor-General David Johnston says time, talent, treasure keys to philanthropy

From The Globe and Mail, Saturday, October 29, 2011.  Excerpt from Interview: What would be the role of philanthropy in job creation?  Governor-General Johnston:  More public-private partnerships – philanthropic endeavour along with public services. Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver builds homes for people in need of safe, decent and affordable shelter, so who better to lead the way than Tim Wake, an affordable housing consultant.  As our new CEO, Tim brings a wealth of affordable housing experience.  Tim has the able and dedicated support of the staff, volunteers and Board of Directors.

Calling all Volunteers!  From time to time, Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver participates in community events, trade shows, home shows and the like.  When we do, we need volunteers who are passionate about our work and can help us spread the word by tending booths, handing out flyers and speaking with show attendees about the work we do.  If you've always wanted to volunteer with us but were maybe intimidated by working on the build site or in our ReStores, this could be perfect!  Click here to contact us about being an event volunteer.

Meaning of Home Contest

Shelter. Comfort. Family. "Home" can mean many things to many people.

Habitat for Humanity Canada and Genworth Financial Canada are asking students in grades 4, 5 and 6 across Canada to tell us what "home" means to them by entering the 5th annual Meaning of Home Contest.  By entering, students have the chance to make a difference in their community.  In addition to some great prizes, the top entry will be part of the ultimate gift—the building of a Habitat home in the area of the winner’s choosing—all sponsored by Genworth!
