In 2006, housing in Vancouver was rated as "severely unaffordable" and the most unaffordable city in all of Canada.  In early 2009, the 5th Annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey reported that Vancouver is the least affordable major market, outpacing international cities including Sydney, San Francisco, Melbourne, New York and London.
